After 44 days, finally made a definite turn East ... on US 26 in Redmond, OR. Another great ride this time up in the mountains of Oregon on US 26 . The pictures don't do it justice because the sun was facing us, duh, out of the east, all morning. The roads were great and we easily cruised at 55. Again we lucked out and there wasn't a lot of traffic. Stayed comfortable til we got on I-84 and headed south towards Idaho when the temps climbed to 104. The ol' wet bandana around the neck keeps the brain cool. And, if the brain is cool and happy, it figures screw the rest of the body.Have you checked out all the volcano cones in the last two days of pictures? Like if the big earthquake does in the West Coast the volcanoes will just build it back up ... got a few million years.
Last night we had din din at an Outback in Bend and didn't have to wait hours in line. I guess there are so many steak houses around that the Outback ain't no big deal. Who's Frank Perdue? I haven't seen a chicken house since I left Louisiana area. If there were chickens around they'd probably feed them to the cows. I saw miles and miles of land being irrigated just so the grass could grow for the beevs.
Fella by the name of Steve working the front desk at the Super 8 in Bend was born In Annapolis. His dad was a Naval Officer teaching at the Academy. He attended the Coast Guard Academy while I was stationed there ... in New London, CT. He rides a Ural. It's a Russian bike that comes stock with sidecar. I looked at these at the Washington bike show. They are great back-to-the-basics bikes that you can work on yourself. Plus he says it's good in the snow.
I didn't mention it yesterday but we have seen a marked increase in motorcycle cruisers since we left SF ... lots with trailers. No shocker to me, this has to be the finest cruising area.
